The Library's Collections: an Overview

The Library's collections include more than 50,000 items including books, CDs, DVDs, audio books and archives.

The Northeast Harbor Libary houses a collection of more than 50,000 items, including bound books, periodicals, audio books, DVD’s, CD-ROM’s and video cassettes. The Children’s Department accounts for about 13,000 items of the overall collection.

The library staff will gladly acquaint you with the collection and the organization of the Online Public Access Catalog. To complement our adult, children's and reference collections, we hold an extensive collection of non-fiction works focused on Maine and Mount Desert Island, housed in our "Maine Room." We also have a collection of gardening-themed books kept in our "Garden Room."

The climate-controlled archives feature manuscripts, typescripts, clippings, maps and charts, photographs and architectural prints and drawings — all available to scholars by appointment.

For any materials we do not possess, interlibrary loan service is available through the Maine Regional Library System, as is multi-library searching for the convenience of serious scholars.
