The village of Northeast Harbor is accessed by Route 198, which intersects with Route 102 in Somesville (turn at the light), Route 233 from Bar Harbor, and Route 3 from Bar Harbor, Otter Creek and Seal Harbor.
The Northeast Harbor Library is located on 1 Joy Road in Northeast Harbor. Upon entering town turn right at the corner of Summit Road and Main Street. The Bar Harbor Banking & Trust will be on the corner. Take the second left off of Summitt Road on to Joy Road. The Library is located in the triangle between Summitt and Joy. The Northeast Harbor Library is across the street from the Mount Desert Elementary School.

There's a story behind that weathered old library sign, by the way. It is a testament to the library's long history of service to the community because it originally graced the original library building on South Shore Drive. Then, it was used in winter at the Neighborhood House, and finally was the first sign to mark the library at 1 Joy Road. In autumn of 2007, it returned to 1 Joy Road.
