Membership
Residents and seasonal residents of the towns of Mount Desert or Cranberry Isles are eligible for free library service, though contributions are welcome. Residents of other nearby towns who are in good standing with their libraries are welcome to borrow. Visitors may use the library's resources in-house.
Borrowing
The number of books and other materials a borrower may take is at the discretion of the Librarian.
Borrowers may check out most materials for two weeks. Periodicals circulate for one week. New periodicals do not circulate until the successor issue is shelved. The courtesy of a longer circulation period is at the discretion of the Librarian.
So long as no other patron has requested any borrowed item, loaned materials may be renewed up to three times, each time for the same duration as the original loan.
For the retention of materials beyond the time limit, five cents per day will be charged after the first overdue day.
Materials lost or seriously damaged will be replaced by the borrower.
All materials must be returned to the library and not passed from one borrower to another.
Aids for the visually handicapped are available for extended periods.
